Commission I ordered from SqueakyE (Tumblr: ehrola.tumblr.com/) for the revision of my young adult fiction 'What I Learned at SRU' into an original series, currently titled 'What We Learned at Rokudai.' (uploaded with her permission)  This is a reference sheet of Coral Kesuk over the course of time in the story. (age 27-28). She is directly inspired by the protagonist of Legend of Korra.

Coral Kesuk is a young adult (27-28), a Canadian of Inuit/Native-American (and perhaps some African) ethnicity. She is Katrina and Siku's older cousin, and their only cousin. After witnessing her aunt's death at the age of 18, Coral made a personal vow to become strong enough to fight back against criminals like the ones who hurt her family. She attended police academy at her Uncle's advice, but flunked due to her immaturity and rash behavior, unfit for the force.

Ashamed and down on herself, she quickly took bartending school and became a bartender as soon as she was legally able. Years of life as a bartender passed until she sought a change of pace in the town her cousins attend college, down in the US. She packs away her old life and seeks to start a new one.

She is a kid at heart, possessing an intimidating figure -- the body of a woman, but the maturity of a child. She's physically strong, loyal to a fault, and possesses an intense determination and passion to protect people around her, especially those who are not strong enough to defend themselves. However, she suffers from mental/emotional immaturity, and has a habit of taking out her insecurities by puffing up her chest and doing foolish, violent things to make herself feel 'strong.'

When she ends up having little choice in the way of making money but to become a local babysitter for a trio of tweens, Coral's understanding of what 'serving and protecting' really means and why it's worth fighting for gradually becomes clear.

I love Corals design, she is so strong physically and you kept many traits from Korras design in her that she is very recognizably Korra still. I love all those braids she has and how she's still a messy haired tomboy, since lot of people tend to make modern versions of Korra too feminine or stylish, rather than a tomboy who doesn't care that much about her looks.

I love the blue jacket she wears in the autumn design, it's simple but those straps make it interesting and I can totally imagine finding one in a store, which adds to the realism. The white turtleneck shirt is simple enough to work with the jacket and I like how she wears basic jeans. All of her hairstyles are really great and they are actually something I think the canon Korra would have, if the canon artstyle would actually work with so detailed hairstyles with multiple braids(I'm thinking that animating that many braids as some of the designs have would be bit too expensive).

The security guard uniform looks pretty cool and for some reason I see this version of Korra being pretty tall, unlike canon Korra who's rather short, so she would be really intimidating security guard with that height and such muscular arms.

I like that her dress is inspired by traditional costumes, since I can see a modern version of Korra being very proud of her heritage and the hairstyle goes nicely with the rest of it. I also like that you didn't try to make the dress in blue, since I think that many of the designs use maybe bit too much of the canon default colors for the characters.

The winter coat and hat are really practical, which is kind of why I'm confused about the fingerless gloves, since those would be pretty cold at winter. I like the darker colors, since they seem more like what a tough girl like Coral would choose, and go with multiple colors better.

I have no clue about the story, but Korra/Coral totally works as a boxer, or really any type of athlete, but boxer fits with the confrontational personality and the tendency to seek fights. I like that you gave her practical sports wear and that she is so muscular, since lot of people try to make Korra less muscular in fanart, so a person wanting super buff muscular Korra in an alternate universe setting gets lots of points from me for keeping the physical strenght from the canon design.

I like that you weren't afraid of having Coral look like shit after a fight, since often it seems like female characters suffer no visible damage from fights to maintain maximum levels of fanservice. I also like how her hair gets messed up from fighting, which lot of people seem to forget as well.

The swimwear is sporty enough looking to suit character like Coral/Korra and I like how you used red and black for it. I love how none of the female characters actually have totally fanservicey swimsuits in these character sheets, since lot of people use swimsuits as an excuse to make as small and impractical as possible bikinis that the character would never actually choose for themselves.

I love her default outfit, the Canadian flag does work very well on shirts etc. and I like how Coral is being patriotic and wears it. Her vest is also pretty cool looking.

I love how you used the reincarnation thing from canon to make Aang/Aaron and Korra/Coral into friends, despite all their differences. Coral babysits modern versions Jinora, Ikki and Meelo? Or is it a coincidence that there are three kids she babysits for? I also like that you made her Katrina/Katara and Siku/Sokka cousin for this au setting, it does allow you to tell interesting stories based on these little bits I have learned from these character sheets.
