Super Effective on a Single Brick Brain (Pt. 4)

It was a cool autumn afternoon. Weeks had passed since Penny's (or Cassiopeia's) previous 'prank' hadn't accomplished her goal. If anything, it had created a very strange side effect she had not at all planned for – but perhaps should have expected. “Like... this?” Nemona wondered in a murmur, shifting her stance as she thrust a fist forward. Her training outfit looked like it'd be chilly to wear in the autumn, but all of the work she was doing must've been counteracting the somewhat chilly temperature. Nemona's mentor for the afternoon clasped a palm against her chin, eyes narrow with discerning study as she scanned Nemona's posture. In that moment, from her spot on the sidelines, Penny joined in on the studying of posturing, though she suspected her motivations were quite different from this trainer from a neighboring country. The dextrous hands of Bea, the woman scrutinizing Nemona's form, flicked and snapped and pressed at different spots of Nemona's shoulders, hips, elbows

 #### Thrilling. Stupendous. Mesmerizing. There were no if's, and's, or but's about it: Red was back in full form at long last. The applause had been deafening. Her first public performance in over a year. Of course her most avid supporters were there, but the turnout had been larger than anticipated. There was clearly a groundswell of those who saw the implicit message in Red's work, who were willing to turn out to support that cause – intentionally political or no. But, really – intentionally political, surely. Swaggering her way back stage, Sybil was eager to visit her no-doubt exhausted friend and assist her in recoveri

Esteemed - Recovery

A/N: This chapter (the fifth written for Esteemed) takes place the day after chapter 1, 'Afraid Not.' The narrative points this out, but I figured I'd mention it here, just in case. Esteemed Recovery -128 ASC; Summer- -Toph's age: 40- -Lin's age: 8- "-...om? ...ke p...Mom...C'm...up!" "Nngh...?" Toph was slowly waking up to the sound of a familiar voice, her muscles sore and achy. There was a repeated pressure against her abdomen. Ouch. Ouch. Owwwww, what-? "It's late, Mom! You shouldn't sleep all day." As Toph pulled herself up from her mattress, her head was thrown into a state of dizziness as it pounded with pain. Damnit, she was hung ove

A/N: This is supposed to be a kind of ode to the period of time in our lives when we deal with 'puppy love' and we're starting to learn more about who we are as people and what we care about. Hardcore Avatar fans will recognize the title of the story as a line Toph uses to express her brief period of time with Zuko. Everyone else in th

SS: Shades of Gray -1-

A/N: [Update: Check out description for images of the main characters!] This is a Final Fantasy story that takes place in the world of Ivalice some time after the events of Final Fantasy XII. It's not quite an FFXII fic, though, as it is about original characters, but...hey, maybe we'll bump into folks you may recognize. ;) I was originally going to incorporate these characters into my Winds of Fate series way back, but...Their story should still work well as a standalone piece in the Same Skies series (you can find info on that series in my profile). Understanding of FF lore is not required to enjoy this story, I am writing it for both FF fa

The author is in no way associated with the owners, creators, or producers of any media franchise. No copyright infringement is intended. A/N: This story focuses on a theme of appreciating the world around us that we take for granted, and also the theme of opening yourself to the different people who come into your life, as worthwhile friendship are sometimes formed from the strangest of circumstances. Rosalina is an interesting character to write about because I'm sure

Review - Ivy the Kiwi?

Ivy the Kiwi? [Wii] The most accurate way I can think to briefly describe Ivy the Kiwi? is that it's a combination of a puzzle game and a platformer, but I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. I am sure there are other games out there like it but can't think of what the genre they would be classified as. In either case, it's a title that is pretty simple to comprehend but ends up being devilishly difficult by the end. The game is very light on story - players are assisting a cute little baby kiwi bird named Ivy through all kinds of storybook-like environs in the hopes of getting here from point A to B. That's really all you need to know, but

Rokudai Excerpt - D + D

A/N: PLEASE consider checking out, supporting, and/or signal boosting my Kickstarter for an original graphic novel I'd like to create! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/destiny-smasher/downright-fierce As I contemplate things that will change from SRU to Rokudai, one fact is that the song-lyric stuff, and probably some of the direct-quote-from-movies stuff will have to go. Some characters will straight up be removed, and others might be fused into one character. One idea I have in mind is for the group to have a side story going on — think like that space anime the TMNT watch — in the form of them playing through a D&D campai

LoK Review - Civil Wars, Part 2

The second half of 'Civil Wars' was pretty consistent with the first half, following up on the main beats while also pushing more of the plot forward in brisk ways. Once again, another episode of Korra flounders around with pacing issues, which seem like they're just going to be a symptom of this whole season at this rate. That's what happens when you try to cram an entire story arc into 14 episodes, I guess, while insisting on drawing out twists and turns every episode or two. The presentation was, as usual, appealing, though there felt like more instances of awkward stillness. Characters not blinking, standing completely still for just a li
