This artwork depicts a moment from Chapter 4, 'Shiver,' which is about Toph's meteor rock bracelet and the way it shivers when certain nearby earthbenders feel "super emotional," as described in The Promise: Part 2.

In this particular moment, Toph (Age 13) is thinking about a certain Water Tribe boy who has been helping her train her metalbending students -- it has been roughly a year since she has been in direct contact with him, and his reappearance into her life brings up certain emotions from the year prior that she doesn't quite understand (or want to understand) in her pubescent state of being. But one thing is for certain: his presence makes her feel "super emotional" from time to time, for reasons she doesn't comprehend, and this causes her bracelet to shiver, a physical reminder of her own feelings which she tries to suppress.
